Five Days, No Food
We can’t medicate man to perfection again
We can’t legislate peace in our hearts
We can’t educate sin from our souls
It’s been there from the start
But the blind lead the blind into bottomless pits
Still we smile and deny that we’re cursed
But of all our iniquities
Ignorance may be the worst

Leonard Knight, artist at Salvation Mountain in “Slab City” California, passes away at age 82.
I met Leonard while visiting Salvation Mountain a few years back. Sweetest guy. Very spiritual and told the best stories.
You will be remembered by myself along with my entire Into The Wild family.
Rest in paradise.
Simple man, simple life, simple faith.
Rest in peace my friend.
Anonymous said: Do you know what is going to happen to salvation mountain now that Leonard has passed away? Is it protected under some sort of legislation? is someone else there to take care of it? or will it simply be torn down? It's a real shame that he passed, I had wanted to go for a while now and was thinking about giving it a go sometime either later this year or early next year.
Actually since 2011, Leonard was placed into long term care facility because of his health. Since 2011, Salvation Mountain has been taken care of by close friends of Leonard and by the locals of Slab City. The Folk Art Society of America declared it, “a folk art site worthy of preservation and protection”. As of right now, it will stay put with the help of volunteers and locals. A lot of visitors bring paint to fix some damaged areas and chipped away paint. So if you’re ever in the area, a great way to give back to Salvation Mountain and pay respect for Leonard, bring some paint with you and help keep the mountain bright and symbolic! =)
